Strategies for Action

Uniting for Action is founded on the principle that all the resources required to create a sustainable society, effectively addressing all our greatest challenges, like climate change, already exist.

We simply have to organize and appropriately apply those resources to the tasks at hand.

Watch for Action

We’re using the August 4th release of “An Inconvenient Sequel” to elevate the climate conversation.

The Watch for Action events are watch parties we’re organizing at theaters across the country, designed to create greater awareness, education, and urgency around climate change.

Campaigns for Action

Our Campaigns for Action are opportunities for you to join with other Members for Action and Leaders for Action to employ Strategies for Action to create immediate tangible results for society, while simultaneously laying a foundation for expanded results in the future.

National Organizations

Plan

National organizations with a stake in the climate conversation activate their networks of strategic partners, local groups, and members to schedule, promote, and attend watch parties for An Inconvenient Sequel at local theaters (opens in select cities on July 28th; nationwide on August 4th).

The more of the American public that goes to see An Inconvenient Sequel, and the more media attention it gets, the more it supports every organization that has a stake in the climate change conversation.

We’re leveraging the release of An Inconvenient Sequel as an opportunity to not only grow awareness, education, and urgency around climate change, but also to connect the dots from the movie to all the organizations, like yours, that are on the ground, addressing climate issues every day.

We’ve created the Watch for Action campaign as a way for your organization to directly benefit from the movie release by having your organization take a lead role in mobilizing the public across the country to go see this movie, and then providing the movie-goers with your organization’s calls to action.

Objectives

Create increased awareness and viewership of An Inconvenient Sequel across the country to expand climate change:

  • awareness
  • education
  • urgency
  • organization
  • action

With all the negative news and emotional let-downs around climate change lately, this movie is said to be optimistic and hopeful in it’s tone.

We know that the key to making a real difference for climate change is translating people’s concerns and hopes into tangible actions, and that’s where we’re relying on your organization.

Let this movie be a way to rally your supporters in a positive way – like a pep rally.  Get them to the movie, and give them clear calls to action of how they can engage with your organization after the movie in ways that support:

  • their family
  • their community
  • the planet
  • your organization

Your Roles

We’re making this a low-effort, high-yield opportunity in order to maximize the participation of as many organizations as possible.

As one of the participating organizations, you’ll encourage all of your local chapters, groups, and members to participate in the Watch for Action campaign by asking them to:

  • schedule and promote watch parties for An Inconvenient Sequel at local theaters (opens in select cities on July 28th; nationwide on August 4th)
  • post the watch parties on the national map and calendar on the Watch for Action page on UnitingForAction.com to make it easy for people everywhere to find the watch parties in their community
  • attend a watch party if possible, or go see the movie at another time
  • share the campaign and the watch parties in their community on social media and via email blasts
  • send personal messages to friends encouraging them to go see the movie

Uniting for Action will work with your organization to create a step-by-step playbook, customized for your supporters, including scripts for Facebook event pages, email blasts, social media posts, etc.

Your Benefits

High visibility and leadership position for your organization in the national climate conversation.

Your organization may be prominently featured in communications and promotional materials:

  • social media shares

Possible opportunity to distribute flyers or to be included in flyers distributed at the Watch for Action watch parties.

Political Organizations

Important Note: As described in our Uniting Principles, Uniting for Action is founded on the belief that climate change, like other human, civil, and environmental justice issues, is a non-partisan issue that everyone has an equal stake in, regardless of political orientation.

Because of that, any information that is officially distributed at any Uniting for Action event must be non-partisan in nature.

We don’t want to turn off or alienate any event attendees.  We want everyone to feel welcome, accepted, and be wholeheartedly involved in and supportive of our efforts, regardless of their political preferences.

Political organizations are being invited, not to bash anyone or any party, nor to campaign for anyone or any party, but to offer positive solutions, legislation, and actions that all citizens and voters can take.

What is appropriate is to offer information like voting records, and help educate citizens about the climate and environmental impacts of voted on and proposed legislation.  We want participating political organization partners to provide voters with the information they need to be able to know who to support and who to oppose, based on those candidates’ support or opposition of the issues, like climate change, that they care about.

Plan

Provide an opportunity for political organizations to leverage their resources, and take a leadership role around climate change.

Activate your network of strategic partners, local groups, and members to schedule, promote, and attend watch parties for An Inconvenient Sequel at local theaters (opens in select cities on July 28th; nationwide on August 4th).

Provide climate change political and legislative information to moviegoers, along with calls to action about what citizens can do to make a difference within the political process.

The more of the American public that goes to see An Inconvenient Sequel, and the more media attention it gets, the more it supports us all, as we all have a stake in the climate change conversation.  Have your organization deliver that message.
